The Rugby Club was established 30 years ago by a group of committed
parents to help the coaches to further the development of the rugby
playing skills of all of the pupils from Bronte all the way through to
the 1st XV and the Old Grovians. This has been achieved over
the years by the organisation of social events with the joint aim of
bringing the rugby playing community (both parents, coaches and pupils)
together in a social environment and of raising funds to develop skills.
Whilst the main event for which the Rugby Club raises funds is the
Senior Rugby Tour, which happens every three years, the Club also raises
funds for playing kit for the various school teams, to support junior
tours including the annual Bronte to Edinburgh and Senior Sevens
tournaments, and over the years various items of equipment have also
been provided.
We also try to make the watching of Rugby at the Grove more enjoyable
through the provision of a Tea and Coffee service at home matches, and
by arranging for the Bar to be open after the afternoon games.
Clearly this takes some organising, and so there is a Committee of
parents and coaches which meets on a regular basis to plan and run
events. Every parent is automatically a member of the Rugby Club and any
parent is welcome to join the Committee – we are always looking for new
Committee members. No experience or particular skills are necessary –
every contribution is gratefully received.
We aim to have at least one representative from each school year,
including the Old Grovians. To join the Committee all you need to do is:
